Window air conditioners offer a cost-effective way to cool one room of your Prescott Valley, AZ home. Clean the Air Filter
Before you clean the window AC unit, unplug it. Next, find the unit’s air filter. On some models, the filter slides out of the unit. On others, a door covers the filter, and you’ll need a screwdriver to remove the door. Use a handheld vacuum to remove dust from the filter. Scrub the filter with a soft-bristled brush and warm, soapy water. Allow the filter to completely air dry before putting it back into the AC unit.
Remove Debris From Coils and Fins
Use the AC unit’s owner’s manual to locate the coils and fins. Use a soft-bristled brush to gently remove dust and debris. A can of compressed air can help remove hard-to-reach dust and debris buildup deeper within the unit and on the underside and back of the coils and fins.
Wipe the Exterior and Grille
Use a damp, soapy microfiber cloth to wipe the grime off the window AC unit’s grille. Also wipe the cover, top and sides of the housing. Spray a light layer of hydrogen peroxide over the air intake and into the drip tray. Hydrogen peroxide inhibits mold and mildew growth in the AC unit.
